A very small collection of people were probably let down to find out that Wii U, while backwards compatible with the original Wii, won’t play GameCube games. While we bet the majority of Wii owners didn’t even know they could play games from the purple lunch box’s mini discs, but it’s always sad to hear a system losing features. Though don’t consider the Cube dead yet, as a recent interview suggests that you’ll be able to download GC games to the Wii U… for a price.
In an interview with NintendoGal, Nintendo exec Amber McCollum was asked to comment on Wii U’s GC snub. Amber had this choice quote:
“… Nintendo’s history usually goes back one system. The Wii was compatible with GameCube and Wii U will be compatible with Wii and that’s pretty traditional in launches from Nintendo… Actually the GameCube discs will not be compatible with Wii U, but a number of the games that were playable on GameCube can be downloaded from WiiWare.”
It seems very natural for Nintendo to expand its successful Virtual Console business on its next console, though this possibility, which Nintendo has yet to confirm, asks several questions. Will the controls transfer well to the Wii U’s innovative tablet, or will we need to keep our Classic Controller Pros handy? And what about size limits? GameCube games take up a good deal more space than your standard Nintendo download of a WiiWare or N64 game, are Wii U’s storage options up to the task? Will Nintendo milk the releases like it did on Wii’s VC or give us a healthy smattering of quality titles like Mario Sunshine, Resident Evil 4, and F-Zero GX right off the bat? Most importantly, which GC games do you want to see downloadable first?

Looks like news has come out regarding how many controllers you can use per Wii U and it's a single unit. Player 2 is going to have to suffer without an extra screen on his controller. Color me majorly disappointed. I had hoped that you would be able to tie 4 Wii U controllers into the same Wii U for extra gaming madness -- but, at a minimum, 2. Is anyone else supremely disappointed by this?

We had all heard rumors about the Wii U not supporting Bluray but this is the first I've heard that it won't support standard DVD's either... which really makes no sense as many people want to use these type of devices as a DVD/Bluray player as well and it gives them an easier pill to swallow when plunking down the cold cash for the device in the first place. You can at least justify $100 of the price to yourself since you'll get dual usage out of it.
It wasn't to be though. The Nintendo president himself has this to say:

If you've been wanting to see more pictures of the Wii U then we've got some for ya. These pictures show more close-ups of the controller, the side of the console and of course the rear of the console as well. But, don't get your hopes up too much as the Wii U is actually quite plain by all appearances. All the magic is on the inside.
